It's true that all good things must come to an end and following in the footsteps of the mighty dinosaurs and dodo before it, the 3.5-inch floppy disk has too gone on to that fabled better place following Sony's announcement that they will no longer be producing the disks from March next year.
Despite the floppy's glory days which quickly saw them clogging up office drawers and getting jammed in computers since 1981, more recent data storage devices such as the CD, DVD and USB stick have since hammered the final nail into the floppy's coffin.
Although over 47million floppy disks were once sold in Japan each year alone, today's digital demands mean the the floppy's scant storage limit of 1.4MB means it can barely pack away one MP3 single from iTunes.
The news of the 3.5-inch floppy's death won't come as a shock to many as makes of computer such as Apple and PC have long been selling models without pre-installed drives.
In honour of the the floppy disk's valiant efforts over the past 30 years QueryClick would like to take the follow pixel space to hold a minute's silence.
Thank you.
